St David Preaching
detail from St David

St David Preaching detail from St David

Photo © Martin Crampin

about 1896

Single-light window with a standing figure of David dressed as a bishop, and a scene of him preaching to a crowd below.

size: 40 cm (width)

Church of St John, Pembroke Dock, Pembrokeshire
south wall of the Lady chapel (window number: sIV)

The window is probably the work of C.E.G. Gray of Cambridge, as it shows similarities with the window by him depicting the Nativity at the Church of St Martin, Haverfordwest. The artist was also responsible for other painted schemes in Pembrokeshire, including nearby at Monkton Priory. The same studio probably also made one of the windows on the north side of the church, in which the Nativity scene closely matches the one at Haverfordwest.
