St Winefride and St Beuno
1994
Two-light window with seated figures of Winefride and Beuno in a landscape with water in the foreground.
firm/studio: John Hardman Studios
St Winifrede's Well and Well Chapel, Holywell, Flintshire
chapel
The design was arrived at following suggestions from Tristan Gray Hulse, who kindly provided information on the process of commissioning and designing the window.
The window was commissioned by Fr Bernard Lordan, using a legacy recently left for the shrine.
The scene is intended to represent the episode in the Life of Winefride when Beuno departs from the well, after the resurrection of Winefride, and Beuno promises that the spring will be a place of healing for those that Winifred intercedes for. The pose of the figures is based on a print of the scene published in The Lamp in 1864.
