Jonah Jones (1919-2004)

Although of Welsh descent, Jonah Jones was born in Washington, County Durham and moved to Wales after the war. There he briefly worked with John Petts and then at Eric Gill's workshops in 1949. He set up his own workshop at Tremadoc on the Lleyn Peninsula. He converted to Roman Catholicism in 1955 and did important commissions for Ratcliffe College Chapel, Leicester and Ampleforth College in 1960 and the Gerard Manley Hopkins window at Loyola Hall near Liverpool. He also did portrait busts and carved inscriptions, including examples at Westminster Abbey.
