Hubert Thomas (1913-1995)

Stained glass artist. Hubert Thomas was a cousin of Howard Martin, and together they founded the stained glass firm Celtic Studios in Swansea after the Second World War. Hubert Thomas trained at Swansea School of Art, where he made the first ever stained glass panel at the School, and subsequently worked with Howard Martin until the outbreak of the war. After a spell working for James Hogan at Powell & Sons in London, Hubert Thomas returned to Swansea to become studio director and 'Chief Craftsman' for Celtic Studios in 1948, and continued to run the firm until 1992.
